In January 2012 the Kelley School of Business and the IU School of Education formalized a collaborative agreement that enables Ed.D. students in educational leadership to take courses toward a masters degree in strategic management at the Kelley School. The Kelley School is ranked number 24th and the IU School of Education is ranked 21st in the nation according to U.S. News World Report. Additionally, both schools’ faculty have been recognized nationally for their scholarship and teaching. The new partnership hopes to prepare outstanding school leaders for Indiana. The program substantially reduces both the time and cost of completion of both the masters and Ed.D. degrees.
The joint program targets aspiring superintendents and other district leaders. Those Ed.D. students who are interested in pursuing a Master’s in Strategic Management would need to take 18 business school credits to complete the master’s degree. Courses which could be used to fulfill the 18 credit hour requirement include the following:
Strategic Management and Leadership (3 credits)
Organization Designs for Strategic Advantage (3 credits)
Strategic Management of Technology and Innovation (3 credits)
Strategic Competitive Advantage (3 credits)
Developing Strategic Capabilities (3 credits)
First Year Kelley Connect Week (in residence) (1.5 credits)
Decision-Making and Leadership Clinic or Global Talent Challenge Clinic (1.5 credit)
Strategic Entrepreneurship (3 credits)
The Kelley School would count 12 hours of Ed.D. coursework toward the completion of the master’s degree and the School of Education would count 9 hours earned through Kelley to fulfill Ed.D. requirements. All of the business school courses, with the exception of the First Year Kelley Connect Week, will be offered online through Kelley Direct.
Students must be admitted into the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in order to pursue the master’s degree. A new Ed.D. cohort is started every other year. We are currently accepting applications. The Ed.D. cohort meets one weekend per month for three years. Scholarships are available for the Kelley Direct courses in Strategic Management.
Any student interested in applying to the joint Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and the Master’s of Strategic Management should contact Cindy Wedemeyer at cwedemey@indiana.edu.
